One of thecomponents of the project is related to implementation of the program formanagement of activities for protection of environment from pollution in thearea comprising farms and rivers - Khobistskali, Chanistskali, Ochkhomuri, andChoga. Rivers of Ckhorotsku, Tsalenjikha and Khobi regions and monitoring ofsoil, ground water and river water quality. According to the programme, in June 2003 - December 2004period, the level of Khobistskali,Chanistskali, Ochkhomuri and Choga rivers pollution, as well as the status ofsoils and ground water in selected farms of Khobi, Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotskuregions was studied. Analysis of the survey enabled to evaluate dynamics ofpollution by objects as well as to define the form and and character of their interimpact.

The degreeof the river pollution is partly influenced by their interference and impact ofthe river flow regime (high water) or variation of the level of dilution. Thelevel of pollution of relatively small rivers is higher than that observed inthe bigger rivers in which they flow in. At the same time, because of thehigher flow and dilution level in the bigger rivers pollution along the riverflow is getting lower.

Relatively low levels of pollution with nitrates and phosphates areobserved in Tsalenjikha and Khobi regions, the degree of pollution withphosphates in all regions under consideration is practically similar. Incontrast to the ground water, in all three regions, drinking water (water fromwells) occurred to be microbially polluted. The reason for that are poor constructionand exploitation practices. Instructions for proper construction of wells andtheir exploitation were once again handed over to the farmers. all worksrelated to the analyses done in compliance with the ISO standards.
